Changes afoot

Hey, whaddaya all think about the changes at Chochmat? Richie, and now Jhos. Of all the spiritual leaders there, Jhos is the one I really connected with, so it's too bad she's going, IMHO.

Any other reactions?

Jhos and Richie were the two persons who drew me to Chochmat. I will miss them, and I won't look for anyone to compare with them. But who knows--perhaps the change might bring some good along with the uncertainty.

Did Richie get the Exec Director job at Beth El? Just a speculation based on the letter sent out by Na'ama F on behalf of Chochmat that said something like "ED for a local congregation". Did Jhos' gig in Half Moon Bay go full time? I suspect Jhos might be happier with fewer places to run to and from in a day.

I heard the rabbi asked for a huge raise earlier in the year.

        (hi keith!)

You mean Avram? He's being ordained as a rabbi this weekend.

I wonder if, financially, they had to choose between paying Avram more money vs. keeping Jhos on staff.

I think there are some guidelines for the more mainstream movements about how much teachers/leaders/educators need to be paid based on their level of education. Folks with masters degrees, for instance, always get paid at least a certain amount. If the renewal movement has similar guidelines (which I'd be surprised if it did, if they were that organized) it would make sense that after ordination, Avram would expect more money. But still, what a bummer to have to lose Jhos and Richie in order to keep Avram.
